Hi Chris, I started reading your book & found I couldnt put it down.. It’s certainly something Im gonna keep going back to. Lovely balanced tone & really informative, interesting facts & observations. The composition and rich look, smashing photographs, are spot on & certainly draw attention to the eye. A fine addition to the local historical cannon & a valuable historical resource.. many congratulations for realising a dream.. x

This beautifully produced book is a must for young and old who have an affiliation for this Island City.
Having been born in Portsmouth just after the 2nd World War and having been involved professionally in the development of a number of schemes on Portsea Island such as Gunwharf, Port Solent, the Ferry Port,Railway Triangle etc this books follows the transition from a bombed out city to the thriving and diverse economic hub that it has now become.

A first class aerial photography book and it is all about Portsmouth. So great quality photos of where I went to school and college, Court Lane, Tech High and Portsmouth Poly (Now uni). Also where I work and where I live. I can even see my car in the works car park!. A great addition to my coffee table style book collection.

Great book and one I’ve always hoped would be born some day. I was born and raised in Portsmouth, but now live in Wanneroo, Western Australia. I picked up a copy of the book during a recent return visit and absolutely love it!

Thanks Chris, I got far more out of this book than expected. Essential viewing and reading for anyone who has a long association with Portsmouth. Reminders of places long forgotten and facts previously unknown and as I went to Primary School with Chris, a reminder of friends from long ago. Highly recommended indeed.

A magnificent book with big, bright and ultra-clear aerial photos. I bought this because I was born in Portsmouth and lived there for 30 years before moving to the New Forest. My wife and I have raised a family here but my children don’t have any reference to where we grew up. I’m going to add information about our lives in and around the city and also their grandparents and great-grandparents who lived there.

    Hi Chris,
Your book was bought for me as a present by a good friend. I have to say I am delighted. As an ex-Highbury Primary pupil (like yourself) I know all the places but it is great to see them from a bird’s eye perspective. The book shows what a diverse city Portsmouth is and how it has developed over time. Some of these changes are good and some clearly not so good. Having lived in Portsmouth all my life it is moving to see the places where I grew up. Where did the time go?

Thank you Kevin. I agree, it’s not all bad! In fact I think it’s much greener now that it was, many of the trees are protected.
